Fog is prevalent every year in the UAE yet the GCC specification doesn’t appear to include rear fog lights. This should be mandatory and older cars should be required to have them retrofitted to pass the traffic department test. In this way within 12-18months all vehicles would have fog lights available for use.
Well said Darren and I would add that hazard light ARE NOT fog lights, not even replacements!!!
FIRST!! normally when i drive people use there fog lights but when they do its so bright and i cant see probably. This has to change because i get so blind and when you drive your gonna mess up and probably crash….
Thanks for your comments.
I agree that fog lights used when its not foggy are excessively bright, however in foggy conditions they are essential to ensure that vehicles are visible. The following distance should be increased such that the intensity of the light is not problematic. You should also slow down. Most fog-related traffic fatalities occur because someone was driving too fast and couldn’t stop in time to avoid a collision.
Remember that other drivers have a limited sight distance and that fog can leave roadways slick. Signal early, and when you use your brakes, apply them gently.
I’m a new driver in UAE. Just want to ask if fog lights are mandatory to be installed in cars here. Im planning to buy my first car, just wanted to make sure that the one I buy has all the things needed so that I will not be in trouble while on the road e.g. flagged by police for not having fog lights installed.
Hi, no it is not mandatory and you will spot many vehicles without. However, we strongly recommend for safety purposes to buy a vehicle with fog lights (front/rear). The UAE is prone to foggy conditions … and you just want to be safe and keep others safe!
