Hello Asim, thanks for your comment which we will feature in one of our upcoming newsletters to share your observations with our eco-system which includes well known delivery brands. I agree to your statements and indeed, more needs to be done to safeguard the wellbeing of delivery riders and the traffic participants they interact with.
Kind regards and drive safely,
Thomas Edelmann

There was a very serious accident involving a delivery rider in Abu Dhabi today. I happened to cross the accident spot a few minutes after the incident and noticed that the delivery driver's helmet was shattered into many pieces. As an avid bike rider myself, I am aware that helmets are designed to withstand significant impact and should not shatter easily. This leads me to believe that the helmet the rider was wearing may not have met industry standards.

I feel like there should be campaign to ensure that delivery riders are provided with adequate safety gear, particularly helmets that meet industry standards. These riders risk their lives daily to deliver goods, and it is our responsibility to ensure they have the necessary protection. By raising awareness and conducting helmet checks, we can help prevent similar accidents and protect the well-being of these essential workers.

This made a very interesting read. While the article covered all very good points related to riding a bike in the UAE, I felt that there could be an additional point to all this - a separate lane for motorbikes. I don't think it is too much of an ask considering that the number of bikers has increased.

I have seen an accident right before my home a few months back and it worries me lot, to see these delivery men staking their life for the sake of say what AED 1000 per month. When people in a car many a time don't survive a crash, I shudder at what happens when a biker gets hit! I think that's food for thought for all of us, when they are risking their everything for us to be fed.
