The Light Motor vehicle course is Dubai Driving Center's most popular course. It prepares students for the RTA driving test for category 3. Students completing this course will be licensed to drive either a manual or automatic transmission light motor vehicle up to 2.5tons.

All students who register for LMV 10/15/20 classes Training Course must attend 8 mandatory lectures.

Course Details:

 
  •   Students who do not currently possess any driving license are considered as a "Beginner" and have to register for a mandatory minimum of 20 hours.
  •   Students who have held their country's license for between 2 and 5 years are eligible to register for a minimum of 15 hours.
  •   Students who have held their country's license for more than 5 years are eligible to register for a minimum of 10 hours.
  •   All the LMV students who registered for 10/15/20 hours of training need to undergo 8 theory lessons. (online lectures available)
  •   Students registering for 10 and 15 hours are required to undergo an Evaluation Test to confirm their driving skill level. Students who fail the Evaluation will be considered as beginner.
  •   Students who have already failed the final RTA road test at another institute may register for a minimum of 4 hours.
  •   Any student transferring in from another institute will be required to take an evaluation test if there has been a gap of more than 30 days since their last class.
  •   Failed student need to take only 4 hours of road training and they can retake road test.
  •   Students can opt to register for either Automatic or Manual transmission. However, automatic license holders are not eligible to drive a manual vehicle.

  •   8 theory lectures
  •   Evaluation test is applicable for students who registered for 10/15 hours of training
  •   Yard Test (manoeuvres) and Initial Driving Assessment Test (internal)
  •   RTA Final Road Test
  •   Minimum 1 Hour night training for all the student (10/15/20) Hours (Optional for female)
  •   Minimum 1 hours highway driving and minimum 1 hours of independent training for 10/15 hour’s student.
  •   Minimum 2 hours highway driving and minimum 2 hours of independent training for 20 hour’s student. 
  •   Highway classes must be taken before taking RTA final road test

For students who have a license from their country of origin

  •   Original Emirates ID card with a copy
  •   Eye test report (It can be completed at Dubai Driving Center Head Office / Alqusais / Al khail/ Dip 2)
  •   Original home country license and copy
  •   People who completed 17.6 Months can apply for light vehicle license.

For students who are Emiratis

  •   Original Emirates ID card
  •   Eye test report (Eye test can be completed at Dubai Driving Center Head Office / al Qusais / Al khail /Dip 2)
  •   Age can be 17.6yrs or over

For Valid GCC license holders

  •   Original Emirates ID Card
  •   Eye test report (It can be completed at Dubai Driving Center Head Office / Alqusais / Al khail /Dip 2)
  •   Original license and copy

For people with visas from other emirates

  •   Emirates ID card
  •   Eye test report (Eye test can be completed at Dubai Driving Center Head Office / Al Qusais / Al khail /Dip 2)
  •   Trade License copy of Both Dubai and VISA Owned emirates is required (Trade license name should be same)
  •   NOC Letter from the Dubai Branch (stating applicant working in Dubai branch)

How To

  •   In case you do not hold a Dubai Visa, but have a valid visa from any other emirate, you can still register with Dubai Driving Center. You need to submit the following additional documents at the time of registration.

Lectures for Light Motor Vehicle

All students who register for LMV/HMVMC Training Course must complete mandatory theory training. This can be done through our state of the art E-Learning Platform 

  •   Lecture 1 : Attitude and Responsibilities of the Driver
  •   Lecture 2 : Knowledge of Traffic Rules and Regulations
  •   Lecture 3 : Characteristics of Road Users
  •   Lecture 4 : Driver Condition
  •   Lecture 5 : The Driving Environment
  •   Lecture 6 : Driving on Freeways, Traffic Violations & Route Planning
  •   Lecture 7 : Hazard perception training
  •   Lecture 8: Traffic Accidents, Case Studies & What to do in an Accident

Rules of Attendance

  •   Please ensure that you have completed E-Learning or attended lectures before booking your RTA Theory Test.
  •   Please ensure you have attended all the 8 lectures before your signal test.
  •   If you will be absent from a lecture, please give 48 hours notice
  •   Ensure payments for training and tests are made in good time to avoid unnecessary issues.

LMV Curriculum

The Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) curriculum has five stages which are summarized below

Stage 1 Subjects: - off road

  •   Vehicle road worthiness checks
  •   Entering the vehicle safely
  •   Being familiar with the instruments and controls
  •   Cockpit drill and driving posture
  •   Safety precautions before starting the vehicle
  •   Correctly adjusting mirrors
  •   Moving off and stopping safely and under control

Stage 2 Subjects: - 40-60kmh roads/light to medium traffic

  •   Rules of priority
  •   Rules for systematic driving (MSPSL)
  •   Approaching and emerging from junctions.
  •   Meeting and crossing the path of other vehicles
  •   Dealing with obstructions
  •   Effective observation
  •   Use of gears/making progress
  •   Dealing with vulnerable road users
  •   Dealing with pedestrian crossings

Stage 3 Subjects: - 60-80kmh roads/medium to heavy traffic

  •   Planning and anticipation
  •   Emerging (Two way streets)
  •   Correct use of slip lanes
  •   Dealing with traffic light controlled junctions
  •   Appropriate speed and safety margins
  •   Effective judgment of speed and distance
  •   Changing lanes and overtaking slower vehicles
  •   Making U turns
  •   Dealing with roundabouts
  •   Night driving

Stage 4 Subjects - off road

 
  •   Angle parking 60°
  •   Garage parking 90° reverse to the right
  •   Parallel parking
  •   stopping the vehicle safely and under control in an emergency
  •   Moving off on an incline

For students who have a license from their country of origin

  •   Original home country license and copy
  •   Age can be 17.6yrs or over

  • * In cases where the sponsor is the husband or father a copy of the sponsor's passport is required.

For students who are Emiratis

  •   Original Emirates ID card
  •   Eye test report (Eye test can be completed at Dubai Driving Center Head Office / al Qusais / Al khail)
  •   Student ID card
  •   Age can be 18yrs or over

For Valid GCC license holders

  •   Original Emirates ID Card
  •   Eye test report (It can be completed at Dubai Driving Center Head Office / Alqusais / Al khail /Dip 2)
  •   Original license and copy
  •   Noc from the sponsor(If required).

For people with visas from other emirates

  •   Emirates ID card
  •   Eye test report (Eye test can be completed at Dubai Driving Center Head Office / Al Qusais / Al khail /Dip 2)
  •   No Objection Letter from the other emirate, stating that the student has not opened a file in that emirate
  •   No Objection Letter from the RTA for the student to open a file in Dubai

License Exchange

You may be eligible to transfer your existing driving license, without having to take a driving test, if you have a valid driving license from some countries. You must be a citizen of the country with current resident status in UAE. The countries whose citizens can transfer their driving licenses are given below

 

Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Kuwait, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway,Serbia, Lithuania, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, China, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Austria, Lativia.


Please note: Driving license holders of some countries in the above list will require translations or consulate letters. These countries include:

Canada: A letter from the Canadian Consulate in Dubai to verify that the license is genuine is required, before transferring your license.

Driving license holders from Greece, Canada, Poland, Turkey, Japan and South Korea will require a translation of their driving license from their respective consulates.
